English Heritage

English Heritage cares for over 400 historic buildings, monuments, and sites - from world-famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, from Roman forts on the edges of the empire to a Cold War bunker. Through these, we bring the story of England to life for over 10 million people each year.

We care for and protect some of the most iconic sites in the North East from Berwick Barracks in North Northumberland to Barnard Castle, County Durham. Some sites Durham Business Group members may know include Lindisfarne Priory, Belsay Hall, Brinkburn Priory, Tynemouth Priory,  Warkworth Castle, St Paul’s Monastery, Egglestone Abbey, Finchale Priory, Dunstanburgh Castle, various locations across Hadrian’s Wall including Horseheads Roman Fort and Corbridge Roman Town

We are supported by our members and commercial activity, and as a registered charity, no. 1140351, and a company, no. 07447221 we are increasingly relying on our innovative partnerships and philanthropists to help achieve our charitable objectives and financial sustainability to ensure we are able to continue caring for our amazing historic buildings, monuments, and sites in the North East and nationally.
